Carbon footprint is such a gentle euphemism, as if the impressions we leave are little more than imprints in the sand; a more accurate metaphor would be “carbon wound.”

Lands’ End feels climate change in its bottom line

One hopes that the latest negative financial report from Sears and Lands’ Enc will underscore for executives at both companies the extent to which global warming can (and increasingly will) affect profitability – and how seeking ways to conserve more of everything the way Kohl’s has – will convince them to take greater steps to further reduce their energy use and their contribution to global warming.

NASA’s Hansen: Earth perilously close to tipping point

If you’ve ever been in a small boat or raised children (or been in a small boat with children) you have both an intellectual and visceral understanding of tipping points. Like a boat, the Earth is inherently good at remaining stable, even in nasty weather. But all boats—and all planets—have a tipping point past which things go from OK to gawdawful in the blink of an eye. Before you know what hit you you’re upside-down and sucking water.
